Our invitation

Welcome to atreyu!

We (Ebru & André) founded atreyu after decades of experience in business and the investment sector. Already then, our efforts were focused on influencing business and investments towards delivering positive impact. Two major learnings emerged from our journeys: (i) that everything is interdependent, and often, efforts deployed for improvement in one area resulted in negative side-effects in another area; and (ii) that to achieve positive change, a desire to do so is necessary but not sufficient - a real shift in the way we think is also needed.  As Albert Einstein famously said:

“We cannot solve the problems of today with the same level of thinking that created them.”

Consideration of interdependencies has largely been missing from modern human-created designs as a result of reductionist thinking. In our quest to understand interdependencies better, we turned to nature: after all, who understands this better than nature? This led us to biomimicry - and from there to regeneration. While sustainable development looks to satisfy fundamental human needs today without compromising the needs of future generations, the goal of regenerative design is to develop restorative systems that are dynamic and emergent and are beneficial for all living systems. Regenerative design intends to revitalise communities, human and natural resources, and society as a whole.

We are all part of a larger living system and every living being has a role and a purpose in the well-functioning of this system. Everything is connected and when we exclude or disregard one part of the system, the whole system suffers.

The shift to “regenerative thinking” enables atreyu to see the larger living system and its constituent systems (the ‘whole’ and the ‘parts') simultaneously, as well as the interdependencies between these systems. We recognise the business ecosystem as a living system which sits within the larger living system and believe that a business’ success results from its well-functioning relationships with the ecosystems that it influences and is influenced by.

We are committed to building atreyu into a regenerative investment vehicle – one that works closely with the principles of regenerative design in order to create a healthier and more inclusive future for all - while also supporting the growth of resilient, innovative and profitable businesses. In tandem with this, we are also founding ria (Regenerative Investing Academy), to continue the development of a regenerative investing field and make regenerative investing and business practices available to the greater investor community, and to their investees.

We welcome you to join us, and our existing investors and investees, on this journey.
